Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ken has been in funeral service since 1988. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and has been in management since 1993. Ken truly believes quality of service to his families is paramount and each one should be served with the same dignity and respect that he’d want his own family to receive.

Ken resides in Alameda with his wife Jaddy and daughter Helen. His interests are professional baseball and football, and his hobbies are working out and running. Ken has completed over 67 marathons and has run one in all 50 states and four continents. He is also a member of the Alameda Rotary Club, Alameda Hospital Foundation Board President, Alameda Meals on Wheels Board, and Toastmasters International.

Jenny Chen

Jenny Chen

Counselor for Asian Services

Originally from Taiwan, Jenny has been a funeral counselor for over twenty years and has been at Grant Miller-John Cox Mortuary since 2005. She is very active in several associations in the Chinese community in Oakland's Chinatown, including the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and enjoys traveling, physical fitness and gourmet cooking.

Diane is a native of Oakland. Upon retirement from AT&T, Diane worked for her mother-in-law, who was a local funeral director/owner. She has been the Administrator at Grant Miller-John Cox Mortuary since 2015.

Andrew  Slakey

Andrew Slakey

Funeral Director/Embalmer

Andrew Slakey is a licensed funeral director and embalmer who began his career in funeral service in 2005 and joined Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services in 2011.

He moved from the Los Angeles area to San Francisco in 1994 and graduated from the University of San Francisco with a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Hospitality Management. He began a successful career in hospitality, working for The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco before a series of life events led him to search for greater meaning in his professional life and eventually brought him to a second career in funeral service.

Andrew lives in Alameda with his spouse and their golden retriever. He volunteers with Alameda Meals on Wheels, is on the board of Oakland’s Koreatown Northgate Improvement District, and is past Vice President of the Encinal Yacht Club. He swims with a U.S. Masters Swimming team and enjoys the challenge of open water swimming in San Francisco Bay. Other hobbies include sailing, kayaking, exploring global cuisine and fine dining, home brewing, wine tasting and trips to wine regions, reading, and domestic and international travel.

Christine has been in the funeral profession since 2002 and has been a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer at Greer® ,Family Mortuary since 2008.

Christine lives in Alameda with her husband, Ron and their two dogs, Izzy and Frankie. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, gardening, going to car shows, traveling and visiting her hometown Napa.

She is a member of the Bayview Women's Group in Alameda and a volunteer for Alameda Meals on Wheels and is active within the Alpicella Club with her husband and attends various Chamber events.

Craig is originally from New York City, where he graduated from the American Acadamy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in 1982. He enjoys sports, with baseball and bowling topping the list.

Barbara recently moved to Alameda from Santa Monica, where she and her husband were care-givers for her in-laws. Prior to living in Santa Monica, Barbara lived in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. She was in the customer service industry in Canada for over 37 years. She feels privileged to help families in their time of grief. Barbara enjoys sailing with her husband, biking, swimming, and reading.

Elizabeth is currently studying mortuary science at American River College in Sacramento. She grew up in Alameda but has also lived in Chicago and Boston. She is excited about serving the Alameda community through all the things she is learning at mortuary school.

Leslie Hodgkin

Leslie has been an Alameda community volunteer for over 15 years. She is currently active with Alameda Kiwanis Club, Alameda Citizens Police (COPPS) and Christ Episcopal Church. Past volunteer activities include Alameda Hospital, Alameda Meals on Wheels & Friendly Visitors, American Red Cross and Alameda Food Bank.

She is a Bay Area native, although she lived in Tucson, Arizona and southern California for her younger years. Her education includes a B.A. in anthropology from University of California, Irvine and a certificate in musical instrument repair from Orange Coast College. She was an accomplished French horn player for many years. In 1985, she moved back to the Bay Area for a career in commercial property management and accounting. She was married for 18 years and lost her husband to cancer in 2006.

Leslie’s interests include trading equities and futures, classical music, travelling, camping and fishing, and helping people.
