Emus Mitchell was born in Richmond, California, on June 6, 1951, to her late parents Mary E. Brown and Eddie Brown. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Emus Mitchell graduated from Berkeley High School, in Berkeley, California. She continued her education at Heald Business College in Hayward, California. She married Johnnie E. Mitchell in 1971 in Oakland, California. They were happily married for 49 years. The first of their special blessings, Natanya Mitchell was born, later their son Johnnie Mitchell, Jr., was born, and their family was complete.
Emus worked at Milligan Spiker Company as an Accounts Receivable Manager for over 10 years in Oakland, California. Emus had a passion for working with the youth and decided to volunteer her time with the Oakland Unified School District. That passion turned into her opening her own family daycare, hence Young at Heart Daycare was established in 1994. Emus Loved children, and she had a passion for teaching, which brought her great joy.
Emus loved to take walks, creative home decorating, festive family gatherings, bowling, and camping, but her greatest love was her family, and her friends.
Emus leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Johnnie E. Mitchell, Sr., her daughter Natanya Mitchell, her son Johnnie Mitchell Jr, her daughter-in-law Brandy Mitchell and grand- children Jayda Mitchell and Brycen Mitchell. Also, left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Linda Brim, Shirley-Brown-Fox, Gwendotyn Terry, and Janet Brown; her brothers Raymond Lambert, Ronnie Brown, Cleveand Brown and her late brother Donald Brown. Along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
