Irene Marie (Giovanetti) Crosetti, beloved mother, nonni, aunt, friend and mentor passed away on January 3, 2018. Irene was a proud native of Oakland, born to Italian parents, Lazzaro and Georgina Giovanetti. On July 1, 1950, she married her loving husband Stephen Crosetti. They were married for forty-three years until his passing in April 1993.

Irene was a proud alumna of Sacred Heart Grammar School, Holy Names High School, where she served for four years as Class President, and Holy Names College, all in Oakland, CA. 

Irene worked for over sixty years in “her” Children’s Departments beginning at Kahns, Rhodes, Liberty House, and then moving on to Saks Fifth Avenue, Carnivale and Cotton & Company.

Irene considered her role as Mother and Nonni the most important of all. She was a constant loving presence in the lives of her children, Stephanie (Robert) Biegler and Stephen (Chris) Crosetti and her treasured grandchildren, Robert, William, S.J. and Bradley Biegler and Alanna, Marissa and Gina Crosetti.

Irene was not one to stay idle. After her retirement, she spent time with Legion of Mary, St. Theresa Ladies Guild, Ligure Club, Colombo Club, Holy Names High School Alumni Board, Italian Catholic Federation, WINGS and especially her beloved St. Theresa Catholic Church, where she was a parishioner for more than sixty years.  Her involvement in these organizations enriched her daily life. 

Irene will be deeply missed for her graciousness, generosity, kindness and humility. She sought the goodness in everyone and demonstrated great courage and strength. Irene’s loving nature touched many people. She valued her extended family and countless friendships.  She practiced her faith daily. A devout Catholic, she had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers, Fred and Al Giovanetti. Irene is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Anna Alberti; and by many loving nieces and nephews.  Irene's memory will continue to live in the hearts of all that knew her.

The family would like to thank Fairbanks Home, especially Vio, for the loving personal care she provided for our mother. We would also like to thank St. Theresa’s Parish for their ongoing love and support.

Family and friends are invited to attend the services in Irene's honor.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. All services are at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 30 Mandalay Rd., Oakland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene’s memory may be made to St. Theresa School Endowment Fund, 4850 Clarewood Dr., Oakland, CA  94618
