August 26, 1925 ~ December 10, 2021 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Tribute

Katherine Rose Delucchi, a lifelong resident of Oakland, passed away on December 10, 2021
at the age of 96.

Katherine is survived by her nieces Angela (Eric) Korpela, Andrea Maffeo and Danielle Delucchi and by her nephew Mark (Meredith) Maffeo. She is also survived by her great nieces and nephews, Mark and Kathryn Maffeo and Nicolas, Claire and Patrick Maffeo. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents Gianbattista and Aurelia Delucchi, her three siblings Mary Delucchi, Virginia (Angelo) Maffeo and John (Darlene) Delucchi and her nephew John (Marleen) Maffeo.

Katherine retired in 1988 from the University of California, Berkeley where she was the Director of Materials Management. Prior to this position she worked many years for the Oakland Unified School District, with her last position being Assistant Director of Purchasing. Katherine was the first woman to hold these positions in the UC and OUSD systems. Katherine was a past President of the Purchasing Management Association of Northern California, again the first woman to hold this office. She was a past Vice President of the National Association of Purchasing Management and a past President of the Oakland Unified School District's Employees Association. In keeping with her gifts for leadership, even in retirement she served as President of the Skyline Garden Club, not because she loved gardening, but rather because she enjoyed hosting the Garden Club holiday teas and coordinating the speaker schedule.

Katherine had an adventurous spirit. She was a world traveler who frequently went abroad with friends and family members. Katherine's adventures could include anything from riding a camel in Morocco, parasailing over a beach in Mexico or sailing across the Atlantic Ocean in the QE2. She indulged her nieces and nephews with gifts from exotic lands and took them traveling with her on many occasions.

Katherine was a life-long learner who could never resist browsing in a museum. She was always eager to attend concerts, ballets and plays, frequently treating her nieces and nephews to tickets to performances she was attending. Katherine liked going to Cal football games, even when the bleachers were cold and the Golden Bears were not having a winning season. Katherine especially enjoyed staying at her cabin in South Lake Tahoe, and she frequently invited family members and friends to join her there.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 22nd at 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 322 St. James Drive, Piedmont. Burial services will be private and held at a later date at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hayward. In lieu of flowers family members ask that donations be made in Katherine's memory to the League To Save Lake Tahoe, 2608 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150-9903.
