Tribute

Kwun Kay “Frank” Szeto, 71, died peacefully on March 13, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.  A longtime resident of the Island City of Alameda for 30 years, he is formerly of Houston, Los Angeles and Boston.  He was a native of the city of Hoi Ping in the Chinese province of Guangdong and emigrated from Hong Kong to Boston in 1967 with his parents and younger siblings.  After Mr. Szeto's honorable discharge as an Army Specialist in 1972, he attended technical and trade school through the G.I. Bill.  Among his many successful business ventures, including a well-known Chinese BBQ restaurant in Texas, Mr. Szeto owned and operated Park Liquors in Oakland's Chinatown for over 28 years before retiring in 2018.  The store was a center of social gatherings for customers, friends and family.  With his infectious smile and pleasant nature, he was a friend to many.  He was a car enthusiast, talented gardener and singer, nature and animal lover, and a gourmand.  A man among men, Mr. Szeto will be remembered for his hard work and generosity.  He will be greatly missed.  He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 46 years Deborah; his cherished children Joanne and her husband Ciarán of Boston, MA; and Andrew of Alameda, CA.  He is also survived by his siblings Pauline Chong and her husband Benson of Toronto, Canada; Julie Seto Wong of Montreal, Canada; Kim Szeto of Houston, TX; Fookuen Terry Chan and her husband Jasper Tin of Methuen, MA; Vincent Szeto and his wife Amy of Canton, MA; and sister-in-law Julia Seto of Dracut, MA.  He was predeceased by his much-loved parents Yuk Nam Szeto and Yuk Chu Wong Szeto, his older brother Conway Seto and brother-in-law Raymond Wong.  He leaves behind adored nephews, nieces and their children; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.  Family and friends are invited to the funeral services at Grant Miller-John Cox Mortuary, 2850 Telegraph Ave, Oakland on Saturday, April 18 at 12:00 p.m. Interment at Rolling Hills Memorial Park in Richmond immediately following.  Social distancing and other guidelines will be implemented.
