Shew Park Charlie Wong (aka) Wong Kwok Ming passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 30, 2022 after declining health with his loving wife and daughter at his side.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Jennifer Wong; his son, Allen Wong and his wife, Tiffany; and granddaughter, Alice. He was born in Canton (Toyshan), China in 1930 and lived in Canton and Hong Kong during the Chinese/ Japanese war. He came to the US in the 1950's. He was inducted into the US army in 1956/7 and was discharged in 1959. He Met Betty while he was stationed at Ford Ord, Monterey. They were married in Santa Cruz in 1959 and moved to the Bay Area.
He worked at The CoShell Laundry in Berkeley and as a baker at the Claremont Hotel from 1960 to 1964. He was co-owner of The Rich Cafe' on East 12th Street until 1973. He then joined the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) in 1973 as a welder in the Track Maintenance Department until his retirement in 1999.
He was predeceased by, his grandmother in Canton (Toyshan), his mother , CHU, Kwei Yung in Hong Kong in 1979 and his grandfather in San Francisco in 1964 or 1965.
He loved cats and had many throughout the years. He also liked to travel and they went to many different countries in Asia and Europe.
